track your progress

Postby katie » Tue Apr 13, 2010 10:39 pm

this handy little thread is for progress tracking. for example:

dash down greenville
gun time: 52:27
chip time: 48:49
finished 2827 of 3031, or better than 7% of runners.

make the break
gun time: 47:48
chip time: 47:24
time difference from previous race: -1 min, 25 sec
finished 313 of 367, or better than 15% of runners.

i'll continue to update this post as i keep running races to track how i've been doing. i might even make a dorky graph. i'm pretty happy with my improvement between the first and second race (assuming, of course, my math is correct). how'd you all do?

Greenville:
No official time, but I crossed @ 43ish and I'm pretty sure it took at least 3 minutes to even get to the starting line, so I guesstimated that @ 40:00.

Make the Break:
38:36 - three seconds faster than the 72 year old woman who I was pacing the whole race.
Rank was 257 / 367.

I'm still limping from Saturday, I got these stupid old lady parts in me.

Hot Chocolate Run (1-15-11) 40:12 chip time. More importantly, I didn't hurt myself. My legs are sore but my knees aren't killing me.

Greenville take 2, 3/12/2011:
40:21
Rank was 353 / 462

Verizon first annual field day:
32:30
Personal best, woo!

On the treadmill ah the gym today (3/7/12), after a 30 minute workout: 38ish.

Free To Breath 10k, 5/20/2012:
1:09:09
Rank, 53 out of 79 women

4/26/14 Midleothian 5k4kids: 42:02

What the heck is gun time and chip time?

BTW, I'm into week 6 of the couch to 5k. I have a 25 minute run coming up this Friday.
If it hadn't been for y'all talking about it... I probably wouldn't have tried it. I'm so glad I have now. I'm really digging it.

congrats Jim!

Gun time is your time from when the gun to start the race actually goes off. Chip time is the time from when you pass the starting line.

In the Greenville run, for example, I was pretty far back from the starting line, so my gun time was about three minutes more than my chip would have been.

Forgot this one from two weeks ago. It was sultry, steamy, hot.

So, are y'all timing yourself for gun time/chip time or do they do that for you?

They do it for you, it's really neat actually, there's a tag on your shoe and the start / finish lines have sensors so it knows when you started / stopped and subtracts. It was all futurey.

YAY JIM! that's so awesome! the first 25 minute run seems so daunting but when you get through it, there's such a sense of accomplishment. i can't wait for my stupid knee to be better.

I'm over Greenville. It's so crowded, and I don't even like parades. Not going Komen either, for the same reason (crowds, not parades).
